ABOUT WAYNE

I am a Feldenkrais Practitioner, Soft Tissue Therapist and Movement Coach.  My journey through the therapy world has been varied and exciting, spanning nearly 30 years.  During this time, I have worked at an elite level in International Athletics, Dancing, Martial Arts, Theatre and Professional Football.

It is in Professional Football where I have been from 1997-2020, working at numerous top Premier League clubs and from 2011-2020 at Newcastle United Football Club.  Alongside this, I have also worked in the Private Clinic environment and as a consultant in other elite environments.  Whilst still working as a specialist within professional sports/elite environments, I now predominantly work privately with members of the public.

I have helped people move with more ease for nearly 30 years.  However, my Feldenkrais Journey started in 2005 after a meeting with a Feldenkrais Practitioner in London called Scott Clark.  This was the turning point for me, and I remember thinking “This is what I need in my work and life”.  After this, I embarked on the 4-year Feldenkrais Practitioner Training, and more recently I completed an Advanced Feldenkrais Training lasting a further 2-years in Basel Switzerland.

I established “Smart Somatics” so I could further develop my passion for “Feldenkrais” and help people, who ordinarily, would not have access to an Elite Performance Practitioner.  I am passionate about helping clients discover what they are capable of, whether this be assisting sports people to improve their performance, helping those with neurological or movement disorders, or generally helping anyone to move easier and achieve a better physical/emotional state, leading to an enhanced quality of life.  When I help people using Feldenkrais it is not just about helping people move easier, it can (because of the neuroplastic effects) literally change the structure of the brain, which can have many lasting benefits.  Feldenkrais can open a cascade of new opportunities and possibilities physically, mentally, and emotionally.  You will then move better, function the way you want and will be on the path to finding your own personal good health and happiness.

    Client Testimonials

“I find Wayne is inspirational. I learn so much about myself and what will help me to become the best version of myself that I can be. Nothing is intrusive or painful, just excitingly educational, and inspiring”.

Feldenkrais was not something we had ever come across before, but we met Wayne and what a fantastic form of therapy this is.

Our daughter really enjoys her sessions and can’t believe the outcomes.  She finds the sessions relaxing as well as very hardworking and most of all rewarding.  She attends weekly and has done for around 18 months.

We would recommend Wayne highly and thank him very much for making a difference to our daughters’ everyday life.

“Having tried Feldenkrais with Wayne to help my stiff hip and lower back, I’m delighted with how much my movement and comfort level has improved as well as optimistic about the possibility of substantial further improvements.  I find Wayne’s quiet confidence and competence as a practitioner very reassuring and am relieved to have found the right treatment for me as I was previously a bit stuck with my hip and back issue”.

It is difficult to describe Feldenkrais, but my attempt is that Feldenkrais is a very gentle, hands-on, physical therapy which suggests a new movement pattern to areas of the body affected by old injury or non-optimal movement bad habits.  As a doctor, I consider that there are so many aspects of musculoskeletal ill health or injury which could benefit from this treatment – as well as other fields of medicine including neurological injury / dysfunction.  I am so impressed by Feldenkrais that I’ve already recommended it to family and friends!”
