What is Stress?

What is Stress?

Stress is the body’s reaction to feeling threatened or under pressure. It’s very common, can be motivating to help us achieve things in our daily life, and can help us meet the demands of home, work and family life.

Sometimes though when we have many demands stress can then feel overwhelming or we can feel unable to cope with mental or emotional pressure.

If you’re constantly under stress, you can have physical symptoms, such as headaches, an upset stomach, high blood pressure, chest pain, and problems with sex and sleep. Stress can also lead to emotional problems, depression, panic attacks, or other forms of anxiety and worry.

So many people live with too much stress which has an impact on wellbeing.   There are many things that you can which we will discuss in other posts.

For now, please take even 5-10 minutes just to be.  Read a book to focus your mind on something.  Listen to a guided visualisation or try meditation.  Practice 7/11 breathing which works with your bodies nervous system and sends a calming signal to the brain in the amygdala.  Breathe in for the count of seven. Breathe out for the count of 11.  Do this until you feel a shift.
