Limiting Beliefs Part 3 – How Do I Know What They Are?

How Do I Know What My Limiting Beliefs Are ❓

We are looking at beliefs, how they are formed and how they support or limit us. We often hear from gurus that we should find our limiting beliefs and change them to better beliefs. This is all well and good but how on earth do we know what our limiting beliefs actually are?

Basically, anything you think or say to yourself and others that is negative. Sometimes these beliefs show up in the excuses that you come up with for not doing something. Here is an example that someone who wants to lose weight might think, say to themself or others: I can’t lose weight (belief) BECAUSE being overweight runs in my family (this is the evidence you give to support the belief but is also a belief) Two negative beliefs in one sentence

There is usually a because following the belief even if you don’t say it.

πŸ˜ͺ I ‘ll never do it

πŸ˜ͺ I am not good enough

πŸ˜ͺ you have to work hard to make money

πŸ˜ͺ rich people are evil

πŸ˜ͺ I’ll never be as good as them

πŸ˜ͺ they’re better, prettier, fitter, more confident, wear better clothes than me Even something like- ‘I am going to mess up this interview’ has an underpinning belief such as I am not good enough, I will never do it, who am I to think I can do this job, why will they listen to me.

At the same time consciously thinking I am good enough, I know I can do the job, they’d be lucky to have me, I can make a difference, The two parts of the mind are out of alignment and you get the talking battle going on one part of you saying you can do it, the other part saying you can’t. This can drive you nuts! What to do?

β˜‘οΈ Start becoming aware of your thoughts and language

β˜‘οΈ Keep a notebook with you or use your mobile

β˜‘οΈ records as much as possible negative thoughts about yourself

β˜‘οΈ Becoming aware is the very first step
